North African Middle East Satellite Network Update

North Africa Satellite radio project

Over the past 12 months we have begun revamping the station’s on-air presentation.  We have expanded the program schedule, added new music and special features for Christmas, Easter & the station’s 5th birthday in March. This includes the debut of a new series being recorded in country by an independent producer who received training with us previously. Exciting fruit!

These changes have generated encouraging feedback from listeners about our new format and improved sound

We have strong on-going partnerships with several media missions in the region, who provide us with either live or pre-recorded original programs on a weekly basis.

Listener contact continues to increase.  We are receiving sms messages on our European mobile phone, 90% of these from within North Africa.  We have also upgraded our in country North African telephone ministry. Weekly reports show that regular phone calls and follow-up are taking place.

There are an encouraging variety of reasons why listeners make contact with us: they send us greetings, ask for our friendship, and request songs to be played on the air.  Some ask about how to make contact with other believers in North Africa.  They also ask searching theological questions. We have long-time listeners who keep in regular contact, as well as more new listeners every month who ask for our friendship and Bible material, etc.

Our ministry focus remains primarily pre-evangelistic, often presenting muslim listeners with Biblical Christianity for the first time.  We know that some listeners do make a decision for Christ as a result of our programs, and make contact asking to be discipled.

The North African contacts who write would be 60% muslim and 40 % christian believers.  We also receive contact from expatriate Arabic speakers living in Europe, Scandinavia and the USA.  Professional research tells us we have as many listeners in the Gulf and Middle East as North Africa.

Here is one recent letter:

“It is my pleasure to send you this letter. In this happy day I was able to write my first letter to you because I found your station by accident while at my friend’s house. I listened to all the programs, and I felt a strange feeling that I cannot describe in words. I thank the station for all the programs that it presents, and I thank also all those who work at the station for all their efforts. I wish you all prosperity and success.”
