Listeners Set Record During Local Radio Ministry’s ‘Sharathon’

Black Mountain, NC -- October 12, 2007 -- 106.9 the Light ended its annual Sharathon by raising a record $2,004,993 in just two days.

106.9 the Light received 6,593 pledges and donations from listeners to reach the record-setting total. Ten percent of all support received is directed to its sister station that reaches into North Africa and the Middle East with Christian music and teaching in Arabic.

On Monday, October 8 the station held Praise & Prayer Day. Ministry staff and volunteers received over 1,000 calls from listeners who shared prayer requests for issues in their lives and praises of how God has blessed them.

“People tell us the value they get from listening to 106.9 the Light and they want that value added to their families, their neighbors, people they don’t know and likely won’t this side of heaven,” said Jim Kirkland, General Manager of 106.9 the Light. “We’re blessed with this outpouring and will continue to grow our outreach via radio, internet, and through support of global ministries like our Arabic sister station that ministers to Africa and the Middle East.”

Founded by Billy and Ruth Graham in 1962, 106.9 the Light’s mission is to lead as many people as possible into a personal and dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ. The station broadcasts from it’s studios in Black Mountain, NC to portions of seven states and around the world on the Internet at www.1069thelight.org. 106.9 the Light is a listener-supported ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
